Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Kandy Shirey

I am honored and blessed to serve as the principal at Scurry-Rosser Elementary and to be able to serve our students, teachers, staff, and the entire school community. I began my teaching career in the Mesquite ISD 23 years ago after graduating from Texas A&M-Commerce in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I was a classroom teacher for seven years at Shands Elementary, and then I became a Title 1 teacher. During this time I worked with struggling learners and earned my Reading Recovery certification. I also went back to school to work on my master's degree. In 2004 I graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. In 2011 I became an Instructional Specialist in the Mesquite ISD, and during this time I assisted K-6 grade teachers with instruction and management. In 2011 I also graduated from Lamar University with a Master's Degree in Administration. I finished up my time in the Mesquite ISD as an assistant principal.

My husband and I reside in Scurry with our three children. My oldest son Peyton graduated from SRHS in 2016, and my son Preston currently attends SRHS and will be a Senior. My daughter Avery will attend SRMS and will be in the sixth grade. I am also blessed with a daughter-in-law Ivy, and also our grandson Hudson.  We love living in Scurry, and I am super excited to now be able to work in the community where I live!

I also want to share my love for children. I can guarantee you that everything I do and every decision I make will be based on what is best for the students. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming, respectful, and FUN learning environment. I also believe it is important to create a school culture where all staff members truly believe ALL students can learn and will learn. We will be a campus that goes above and beyond to make sure your child receives the best education with high expectations.

One of my goals this year is to get to know the students and parents at SRES. I always keep my door open and would like to invite you to stop by and visit if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to starting our new adventure together during the 2022-2023 school year!
