Career readiness refers to the skills, knowledge, and behaviors students need to successfully transition from education to the workforce. It includes technical abilities, such as job-specific expertise, as well as soft skills like communication, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, and professionalism. Career readiness also involves understanding workplace expectations, career planning, and the ability to continuously learn and grow in a chosen field. The goal is to ensure students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the job market and achieve long-term career success.

Career and Technical education programs of study

Industry-based certifications (IBCs) validate an individual's skills, knowledge, and proficiency in a specific profession or trade. Employers and professional organizations recognize these certifications as proof of expertise in areas such as healthcare, technology, construction, manufacturing, or other industries. Obtaining an IBC often involves passing exams or demonstrating hands-on competencies that meet industry standards.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs often integrate industry-based certifications into their curriculum to help students prepare for high-demand careers. CTE programs combine academic knowledge with practical, real-world skills in fields like engineering, information technology, culinary arts, and healthcare. Through CTE, students can gain hands-on experience and earn industry certifications while still in high school or during postsecondary education.

Earning IBCs through CTE programs enhances students' career readiness, making them more competitive in the job market and providing pathways to higher education or immediate employment in their chosen fields.
