Financial Aid
Financial aid is designed to help students and families pay for education-related expenses, such as tuition, fees, books, and living costs. It includes various types of funding, such as grants, which are need-based aid that doesn't need to be repaid; scholarships, which can be merit- or need-based and also don't need to be repaid; work-study programs, which provide part-time jobs for students to earn money while in school; and loans, which are borrowed money that must be repaid with interest. The primary goal of financial aid is to make education accessible and affordable, especially for individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford it.
Scholarships
Scholarships are financial awards given to students to help cover education expenses, such as tuition, fees, and other costs. They do not need to be repaid and are typically awarded based on criteria like academic achievement, athletic ability, artistic talent, community service, or financial need. Scholarships can come from schools, private organizations, businesses, or government programs, and their goal is to make education more accessible and affordable for deserving students.
Applying for Financial Aid
To apply for most financial aid you’ll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students that are are not eligible for FAFSA because of citizenship status may apply using the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA.)
