Scurry-Rosser ISD Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent

The search for a new superintendent for Scurry-Rosser ISD concluded this week with the announcement of Mr. Anthony Figueroa as the lone finalist for the position.

Mr. Figueroa brings a wealth of experience to Scurry-Rosser ISD, currently serving as the Superintendent of Groesbeck ISD. With 27 years in education, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Superintendent of Wolfe City ISD, High School Principal in Blue Ridge ISD, Assistant Principal at Houston Education Center (Greenville ISD’s alternative high school and DAEP campus), Assistant Principal of Travis Elementary in Greenville ISD, and Supervising Administrator for Lewisville ISD’s at-risk program. Additionally, he has taught science in grades 5-12 in Melissa ISD, McKinney ISD, Lamar CISD, and Clark County School District.

A strong advocate of servant leadership, Mr. Figueroa has a demonstrated commitment to community service. His leadership extends beyond education, having served as a school board trustee, city councilman, Lions Club member, Kiwanis member, Chamber of Commerce president, and president of CASA for Hunt County.

Mr. Figueroa holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas A&M–Commerce, and has pursued doctoral coursework in Educational Administration at the University of North Texas.

When asked about his leadership philosophy, Mr. Figueroa shared:
“School leadership must value an organization where all staff are supported, empowered, and respected. Students deserve a nurturing environment that provides quality educational experiences, and parents and the community should be passionate partners in the learning process. Each and every student must receive the very best education to prepare them for a future that is ever evolving. But we can do this in a supportive, enthusiastic, and fun way that inspires pride in everyone.”

Scurry-Rosser ISD anticipates welcoming Mr. Figueroa after the Christmas break. Per state law, the district must observe a mandatory 21-day waiting period after announcing a lone finalist before officially finalizing the hiring process.
