Sam Rayburn was a respected Texas and American statesman who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than 40 years and was elected Speaker of the House three times. Rayburn's service was longer than any other person in history. He was known for his integrity, leadership, and dedication to public service.

In accordance with Texas Government Code §662.041, Scurry-Rosser ISD observes Sam Rayburn Day to commemorate his birthday and honor his contributions to our state and nation. Students across the district have the opportunity to learn about his role in American government and the importance of civic responsibility and public service.

Fun Fact: Sam Rayburn believed strongly in public service and was known for keeping an open-door policy—welcoming anyone who wanted to talk, no appointment required.
