Our 8th-grade Principles of Agriculture students concluded their Ag
Careers unit with a special visit from two professionals at Nucor
Building Systems in Terrell.

Nucor Building Systems is a division of Nucor Corporation, the largest
steel producer and recycler in North America. The company designs and
manufactures custom steel buildings for a wide variety of uses,
including commercial, retail, industrial, warehouse, community, and
agricultural.

Students learned about the wide range of career opportunities within
the steel industry, including paths in health, engineering, and
accounting, as well as options that do not require a trade school or
college degree. Our guest speakers, who work in safety and health
coordination within the company, shared their own experiences and gave
students an inside look at some of the impressive projects the company
has completed.

A big thank you to Nucor Building Systems for taking the time to
inspire our students and highlight the many possibilities that await
them in their future careers!

August 25, Women’s Independence Day, is a day to recognize the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920 of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Nineteenth Amendment guaranteed women the right to vote. Women’s Independence Day shall be regularly observed by appropriate programs in public schools to inspire a greater appreciation of the importance of women’s suffrage.

This past weekend, Homero Pacheco crossed the finish line first at the Junior High Cross Country meet—but his greatest victory came after the race. Showing true sportsmanship, Homero went over to a fellow competitor from another district and told him to keep pushing and racing hard, encouraging him that he has the potential to be an amazing runner.

In an era where competition can sometimes overshadow character, Homero reminded us all that athletics are about more than medals and times. His actions highlight the deeper purpose of sport: resilience, respect, and community.

The Scurry-Rosser ISD Board of Trustees to Call a Refunding Bond Election:

At its Regular Board Meeting on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Scurry-Rosser ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to call a refunding bond election to be held on November 4, 2025. Voters will have the option of voting for or against a single refunding bond proposition in the amount of $3,850,000. The refunding bonds would be issued to refinance bonds that are currently paid out of the District’s maintenance and operations budget. The maintenance and operations budget funds day-to-day items like teacher and staff salaries, utilities, and similar items. Approval of the refunding bond would change the payment source of the debt to the District’s debt service tax, which would create space in the District’s maintenance and operations budget for teacher salaries and other day-to-day expenses.

The Board has determined that it is necessary and appropriate to call and conduct an election to obtain voter authorization of the issuance of these bonds. More information will be shared with the community in the upcoming weeks.

Free and Reduced Applications are used to qualify districts for additional funding to support student education and services. Even a small increase in eligible forms collected would result in thousands of more dollars in funding. On the flip side, forms left incomplete potentially leaves thousands of dollars in funding for SRISD students on the table and out of reach.
